What Does Board Certification Evaluate?

Board certification evaluates six core competencies integral to the delivery of high-quality patient care. The competencies were co-developed by IEBDAMS and the Board of International Examinations in Medical Specialties . They are an extension of the milestones aesthetic practitioners and cosmetic surgeons must meet during training, and they are the basis for continuing certification assessment.

PRACTICE-BASED LEARNING & IMPROVEMENT

Show ability to investigate and evaluate patient care practices, appraise and assimilate scientific evidence, and improve practice.

SYSTEMS-BASED PRACTICE

Demonstrate awareness of and responsibility systems of health care. Be able to call on system resources to provide optimal care.

INTERPERSONAL & COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Demonstrate skills that result in effective information exchange and teaming with patients, their families, and professional associates.

PATIENT CARE & PROCEDURAL SKILLS

Provide care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the treatment.

MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE

Demonstrate knowledge about established and evolving Aesthetic Medicine and Cosmetic sciences and their application in patient care.

PROFESSIONALISM

 

Demonstrate a commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities, adherence to ethical principles and sensitivity to diverse patient populations.
